For the last month we've been getting ready for what we thought was going to be the biggest show we've done so far for our company.
TRUE. It was totally the biggest show! At the first show we did you all asked for a few things that we didn't have, and now that we have them for you, everything was a whole lot smoother! We still got a few requests, but not nearly as many as we did at our first show. Everything was amazing, too. Would love to give a little shout-out to Noah and Jeff for putting it all together for us and doing so extremely smooth and seamless thanks to Jeff and Noah and all the PACNWRS staff! We'll definitely be back next year!
It was a two-day show and both days were fun, but each were dynamically different for us! We got a lot of people who knew who we were on day one of the show, so that was fun and exciting. The second day we had a lot of people with more care questions about cresties and leopard geckos! Were you there? Did you get any pictures? We'd love to see you and your pets! And share your stickers, too!
There were so many things at the show. We saw geckos, tarantulas, lizards, frogs, tigers, birds and even camels! It was a blast, and there were some truly awesome folks vending there. The USARK table had some truly awesome wares on their table too, and raffled off ALL kinds of things, including $100 worth of our stickers!
At our table we hosted a few raffles for Western Oregon Reptile Keepers so that they can do the Snake Awareness Day show this summer. Very excited to help them out! We haven't added up the amount that we raised for them, yet, but we'll have a chance to do that soon and they'll announce the amount on their Facebook Page.
We really really really want to be at the next expo in Renton in May. And while we can't guarantee that at the moment, we're working with some other reptile friends to get some hotels all booked together and figure out some carpooling ideas. But, we've requested a table from Joel. So we're leaning more towards YES we'll be there. We'll know for SURE by this Friday. And we'll let you know via our Thank Art It's Friday segment this week.
Many of you know that I'm a huge gecko nerd. Well, I came home with a few little critters, one being a gecko, and three being some adorable little axolotls. We now have four axies. They are seriously cute. Jason came home with a little desert hairy scorpion. He named the little guy Jules Winnfield. Cracked me up. We'll post a few more pictures of them later on our Tumblr account. Aside from this blog, we haven't had much of a chance to do anything that's shop-related. We've made an order for temporary tattoos, and put one in for proofing for new stickers, but haven't yet even done inventory or anything of the sort. Not even a doodle! Phew. Getting back into our normal routine starting tonight, though.
OUR NEW PETS:
Jules the Scorpion
Casper a glowing Axolotl (we got him free at the end of the show, I wouldn't normally buy a glowey one)
Sprinkles the leucistic axie (we ordered this one)
Toothless the wild type axie (we also ordered this little one)
Rooibee. He's not pictured. He's a male crested gecko.
Honestly, Friday. It's here. This blog post should be named "NO! Not Friday Yet!" It's been a pretty busy week for us here at Happy Gecko Sticky Situation. We've been gearing up for our show tomorrow. Got our table set, banner triple checked, browsing books done, new stickers in shop, inventory counted, book keeping figured out, finances all ironed out. And oh yeah a hotel room. Got that too. Somewhere in there we also finished up some doodles. Don't ask us how it happened. Just did.
Show Times, Dates
We've been gearing up for about a month, getting ready for this show. We've ordered stickers, taken polls from you, bought some much-needed supplies and a banner. Needless to say we're so excited to be able to do reptile shows. This show starts tomorrow. I hope that we'll see you there, because I really love meeting all the awesome folks following us.This is by far the biggest show of the year for us, and we aren't sure if any other show will be able to compare! There are a ton of vendors, some really great educational opportunites with venomous snake displays, tigers and lots of booths with friendly and informative breeders. You can pretty much find any information on nearly any reptile that's in captivity here at this show. You'll see our banner and display here. Jason and I will be manning the table together. I couldn't do this without him. Stop by, say HI! and come meet our little adorable gecko, Maté. We'll also have a raffle for a little snake to benefit Western Oregon Reptile Keepers and their plight for a Snake Awareness Day show this year in June.
Show starts at 10AM till 5PM tomorrow and continues on Sunday from 10AM to 4PM. Hope to see you there! Click the show poster for more information on their website, including other awesome vendors that will have booths.
This Week's New Doodles
Hognose snakes are now available for wholesale options to buy and also for t-shirts. With all your help sharing models with us we were able to complete this snub-nosed little smiling snake. This little guy is available in wild-type coloration and also in albino coloration. Now, every doodle is a new experience. Every doodle gets me closer to the species because I look for models, stare, watch videos, stare more and realise even more why I just love reptiles. These hognose snakes are adorable. I didn't even realise that they come built-in with the cutest little smile ever until I took a good look at them.
Wild type, or normal coloration for reptiles make me happy. "It's just a normal" doesn't really apply to me! They make me very happy. That's how the animal originated. Wild. :)
Next Week's Doodle Schedule....?
After the show we plan to do a little bit of inventory and get our shop on Etsy all squared away. That includes the ever exciting chore of book keeping. Most likely this will take a couple days so next week we hope to get started and finished with a sand boa or two but it really depends on how our schedule pans out. We've got new animals coming in, a sticker order to do and shirt orders to get squared away as well. I'd love to promise you more art. We are rescheduling our Art Tip Tuesday segment to the second Tuesday in April since the expo falls on the end of the month and we haven't even had a chance to think about subject matter. We may talk a little bit about tablets.
Artist in Question
Every quarter I will be interviewing an artist, be it a reptile and herpetological artist or just an amazing artist in other fields. Most of the time, I'll be featuring herp artists since I am a herp-based artist and our followers also enjoy and appreciate the herp arts, but our first Artist in Question will be a very good friend of mine, Jessica Elam. I'm completely honored that she accepted my request to do an interview with her because her artwork is just.... stunning. Can't wait to get her interview out and ready for you all to see and for you to see her amazing work. Mid-April our first segment should be published and you'll be able to see her beautiful work right here.
T-shirts, Get Your T-shirts!
We have t-shirt orders open till next Saturday. That's a little over a week. Any of the new designs that are not in sticker format yet are available for use on these shirts. That includes all the corn snakes, hognose snakes and the hermann's tortoise. They come in mens and women's sizing for your convenience. Although our ad shows an axolotl on the front, you can literally put ANY design that we have drawn on your shirt. ANY design of your choice! :) Dark shirts are fine, too because we've put a white line around the design so the artwork stands out against the fabric.
New Stickers In Shop, Available At the Show
Last weekend we put the Jackson's chameleon, red footed tortoises and sulcata tortoise in our shop. We'll have these lovelies at the show tomorrow, too. While we're at the show, we are going to keep five stickers of each in stock in our shop. That way even though we're gone, you can still shop and get stickers you want. We won't be going into vacation mode anymore. We might not be able to answer questions for you about products until Tuesday. The grey harlequin crested gecko, croc skink and leachie are all stickers that won't be in shop while we're away because their stock is fairly short, but we still want to offer those to our potential customers at the show. Those stickers will be in stock again if they sell out in about three weeks or so. A new order for stickers from our sticker printing company will go in on Monday after we've taken inventory, and the stickers that are low-in-stock will go on that order EXCEPT for the grey harlequin crested gecko. We're phasing him out and putting him in storage. So, if you wanted to get one, we're allowing purchase of that one until around 6:00 tonight.
Thanks for reading!
Our weeks are getting more and more busy as the expo gets closer. We're trying to finish up quite a few more doodles than we normally do, too. We're pretty happy to have snakes on board with the rest of our stickery crew. Our new March items will also be in stock on Monday, and the option to buy t-shirts has an ordering window opening up tonight!
This Week's New Doodles
We finished up our doodles that we wanted to this week, except for that pesky hog nose. All the corn snakes we'll have are finished. You were able to see these all on our Facebook page, and now you can see them all in the same place. It seemed like everyone really liked our new designs. We're so glad that everyone is enjoying the snakes we're bringing onto our sticker crew. These lovelies will be available in the middle of April.
Last week we introduced the normal corn snake, and here we have the bloodred motley and lavender corn snake morphs. I finished these up a lot quicker than I thought I would. Which is AWESOME! The rest of the week took itself out of my hands, and gave me a few things to do that took away from time to finish a hognose, one notable item being T-SHIRTS! Another being inventory for a new shipment that we got from our new company.
Doodles for Next Week
Next week we plan to debut the finished hog nose snake and get that sand boa started. Depending on how quickly we're able to finish those two, we hope to have a rainbow boa finished so we can have those available for wholesale at the show. Having these sorts of deadlines really puts a fire under my butt. I can't help but laugh at myself when I do that.
Our New Domain
Thanks to an awesome artist, Dee who owns Custom Exotics in Canada for giving me a tip on a great platform for artists we now have a website! We got a domain for it, too! One I was surprised to see still available: www.reptilestickers.com. We're still working out a few kinks to it, but we've got the basics laid out for you. Now you can order stickers from us without having to be a msember of Ety!
New Packaging for our Mini Sticker Sets
Oh yeah! Envelopes! Envelopes. Teeny tiny envelopes. Our mini sticker sets used to be packaged and sealed in some pretty small envelopes. Those of you who have acquired them know what I'm talking about. Well, we got some NEW envelopes. They're even smaller. Way smaller. And cuter. I adore them. They are about 2x2. When I first ordered them I thought "this will be fun". When you see such a teeny envelope in person you can't help but giggle. The mini sticker sets fit perfectly in them. Plus, even less packaging, nearly half the packaging that they used to be for the same product. I hope you all enjoy receiving your mini sticker sets in these cute teeny envelopes as much as I enjoy sending them to you.
Where's the Expo?
Where? Where? Oh Where?!
Hillsboro, Oregon at the fairgrounds. That's where you can find our table. We'll be one of nearly 70 vendors with wares there. Jason and I will be vending for both days, on March 29th and 30th. We hope to see you there! Just keep an eye out for our banner overhead. We'll have little booklets that you can thumb through to see our available stickers, too! We'll be accepting wholesale orders and there will be some awesome show specials that you won't want to miss!
T-shirts, Get Your T-shirts!
Are you interested in t-shirts? We are opening up orders for some basic t-shirts from the designs that we have. We've picked out the style of shirt we plan to have and have them in men's and women's. Although we weren't planning to do this until May or June, we've got a lot of folks asking us for them, so we're opening them up tonight. The window for these shirts closes April 5th, so if you would like a shirt please order yours by this date. Once they're closed, we'll be sending the orders to the shirt makers.
Our first run will be a pre-order basis since we've just started out. Shirts will be shipped to you between April 17th-19th with USPS Priority two-day shipping. The shirts will have one of our finished designs on them (any one of your choice) and our Happy Gecko Sticky Situation logo across the bottom.
Our NEW Stickers! In Stock Soon
We said awhile back that we were changing companies for sticker printing. This week we got our first shipment of the new stickers from Diecutstickers.com and to keep things short, WE LOVE THEM! They are great quality, the printing job is ten times better and the stickers are much more crisp. Plus, they come to us in little stacks of punch-cut stickers, so we don't have to spend countless hours cutting stickers out before shows or before doing inventory. The new stickers we just got will be put in-stock on our shop once we get some stock photography done for them, which should be done this weekend. Expect to see some listings for them by Monday. Our Red Footed Tortoise, Cherry Head Red Footed Tortoise, Sulcata Tortoise and Jackson's Chameleon arrived, finally!
Thanks for reading! See you next week!
