Well! I haven't been doing any artwork since I got back from Tinley yet, as I'm working on one last commission that I had booked before I got really busy and filling orders, but that is sure to change next week. I've got six herptiles on my radar to doodle, most being inverts and tortoises. And another bearded dragon. I also got extremely sick again, so progress has been slow. My immune system must be workin' at half mast lately as I was sick just three weeks ago. Sick twice in one month is just wrong! But I'm back on schedule for our regular programming of Thank Art It's Friday! and another Artist in Question blog post coming up in a couple weeks.
USARK Fundraiser Continues
First line of business: fundraiser stickers.
I'm still blasted away by the fundraiser we've done. We've (we being Seri and I) raised so far 2680 dollars thanks to everyone and we're still going! While supplies last (very limited!) we have some left-over bumper stickers in my Etsy Store of some of the stickers we had for sale at Tinley that came with free entries. Well, now that the quilt winner has been drawn, we don't have any free entries to give away so we are liquidating the stickers, but all the proceeds are STILL going to USARK. :) We want to get them the biggest donation that we can. No more of these are going to be printed. That's it. So whatever we have is the last of the stickers.
You also still have a pretty good chance at getting that quilt. The person who won it, Terry Splichal donated it right back to USARK so we could auction it off. How sweet was that?! Thank you Terry! It's up for grabs on the Sticky Situation Project Facebook page! (Link Here) So join the group so you can bustle on in there and bid on this amazing piece of artwork.
It's been a total blessing to be able to be part of this fundraiser and I'm so excited to see what else everyone will be able to help us do with it and who will win it!
A HUGE thank you to Phil from USARK. It's been a wonderful time working with you on this fundraiser, too and without your help we probably wouldn't have been able to be as far as we are. You've been totally awesome!!
Last but definitely not least, a big thanks to Seri Dukart. One of my best friends in the world. I adore her and am so happy that she approached me with this quilt idea. Not only did it bring her and I closer, but it also gave me that get-up-and-get-em attitude to get to Tinley Park's reptile show a couple weeks ago. For me, everything that came out of this quilt is so good that I cannot express it in words. My whole world has changed because of it.
Pencils! A New Item!
I've been DYING to get these done and put in the store. Well! Now they're available! I already have to make more of these, though! I posted them for sale on Saturday and our Crested Gecko ones are already sold out! There are three packs of the Axolotl pencils left in the store.
These pencils are a high quality pencil with a medium graphite core. They're cedar wood to reduce breakage and splitting. The erasers are fantastic. They're considered No. 2 HB pencils and great for writing or sketching. Each pencil is wrapped and sharpened individually by hand and packed in a hand-made packaging.
Where does that packaging come from? It's the paper backing from our 'beauty prints' and excess backing so that the waste from our production is brought down even more! (All our excess vinyl and backing is sent to Portland for recycling anyway, but this is one more way to reduce waste and excessive packaging!)
While there are only Crested geckos and Axolotls available right now (err well, just Axolotls!) I'm working on a ton more designs for these pencils and hope to have them in shop full time year-round.
Earrings and Plugs, a Couple Other New Items
This Fall I've really been trying to incorporate more than just stickers to the store. I really want to expand. you can see that with the pencils, of course but here we've also got some jewelry that I've started making. I've got regular old earrings made with a hand-poured resin and our designs embedded as well as Plugs. I adore these plugs. Just... adore. This is one of those things that I've wanted to do for a long time. Plugs are one of my favorite items to look at, and personally I've wanted to stretch my ears for a year or two now.
One of my good clients Jeremiah asked if I could do some glass ones because of his ear sensitivities to metal and other materials. We both worked together to find a local artist that makes glass plugs and BAM! We found one! A great local artist that only lives a couple hours from me makes these. So I just customize them with my artwork. And as you can see they look fantastic! Everything about these plugs is made in the USA, so they're super duper awesome for our economy. You may know that I do my very darned best to find local companies and avoid having to use eBay or Amazon to buy supplies unless it's from a local home-grown store from our own soil. That's so very important to me, and I can see that it's also important to you!
